Ontological and epistemological commitments in interdisciplinary water research: Uncertainty as an entry point for reflexion

Against the background of a renewed interest in interdisciplinary water research, we begin this paper by diagnosing need for deeper engagement at epistemological and ontological level. We then analyse commitments three modeling examples: an academic human-flood model, nutrient transfer decision support model policy facing security model. These examples demonstrate how research practices are not neutral but intervene world distributing agency unequally, providing naturalized de-politicized explanations past pre-configuring certain futures while foreclosing others. Lastly, position hydrology's uncertainty tradition its problematisation choices process as entry point reflexion on contingencies ethical responsibility practices.
